At first, it was just going to be a transcript of the interviews, but as I worked on it, I knew the book had to be written in story form.

I could see how important it was to her to get this message out to you.

There was the precious one of her and her mother Lil, and photos that showed the young and extremely beautiful Dottie as she rose to greater and greater success.

We spent hours going over her albums of her life for the photos we'd use in the book.

Mine was to write and remember as much as I could from our time together.

Her mission was to teach.

Dottie must've known she didn't have much time as she related story after story, lesson after lesson.

Whether it was outside in the beautiful grounds of "the ranch," inside by her famous soda fountain, or on our frequent calls, Dottie would pass along information that she seemed compelled to tell me.

Dottie taught me how much fun it could be to work together on a big project and we worked on it for over a year.

It's almost as if we had an unspoken contract with each other to do this.

"Of course," she said smiling that charming smile of hers.

That delighted her.

After one of the interviews while we were having lunch, Dottie brought up the idea of a book.

Holding my breath, I asked her if she would be willing to do a series of interviews with me.
